HERS Rating Process

.

1. Plans Review & Energy Modeling

Once we receive your project plans, we create a detailed energy model using advanced software to predict your home’s performance. From this analysis, we generate a preliminary HERS certificate, which is required to obtain your building permit. Based on your budget and efficiency goals, we may also:

  • Recommend cost-effective strategies to ensure energy code compliance

  • Perform “what-if” value-engineering analyses to help maximize your return on investment

  • Explore options for achieving Net Zero energy performance

2. Energy Consulting & Midpoint Inspection

Throughout construction, we work closely with your team to identify potential energy-related issues early. After insulation is installed, we complete an on-site midpoint inspection to verify the project meets local energy code requirements. If we identify any concerns, we provide clear recommendations to correct them before they become expensive to fix later.

3. Final Inspection

As the project nears completion, we conduct a final inspection and perform all required diagnostic tests—including the blower door test, duct leakage test, and ventilation test. Once everything meets the standards, we issue your final HERS certificate, which is needed to obtain your Certificate of Occupancy.

If your project is eligible, we also handle enrollment in the Mass Save incentive program, completing all necessary paperwork to ensure you receive the maximum available incentives.
